Enjoying: a lovely day off midweek celebrating America's birthday. Or trying to at least. It's definitely hard to celebrate this country that is ran by people doing so much harm to so many different groups of people but I have hope that if we keep fighting the good fight (no matter how exhausted we might be) we can come out of this shitty time on top. Remember those mid-term elections coming up in November! Other than being reminded of the anger and despair, Dustin and I are taking it so easy today. We aren't huge 4th-ers in the traditional sense. We don't typically go to BBQs or to firework shows. We keep it simple by staying in the A/C eating hot dogs and mac-n-cheese (cheat meal what what!) and watch the Coney Island Hot Dog Eating Contest on ESPN. Spoiler alert: Joey Chestnut won AGAIN. But for us it is really just a nice day off to relax. Well for me at least. For Dustin this is the start of his long weekend.
Reuniting with: Jenny and Kristi! So to back it up a bit my mom and Jenny worked together for about 3 years in the mid 90s. They became very good friends but once Jenny moved to another school they lost touch. During their friendship Jenny's daughter Kristi and I also became friends since we were only a year apart. We would have sleep overs, go to each other's birthday parties, and my absolute favorite was spending 'Take Your Daughter To Work Day' as a foursome. Kristi and I, too, lost touch. My mom and I have always wondered how they are over the years. She even tried to contact Jenny to no avail. Now that my mom is more Facebook savvy she thought to look them up. Except Kristi's now married with a new last name and Jenny doesn't do Facebook. So my mom thought to look up Kristi's brother and sure enough she found Kristi. The two of them arranged this little lunch reunion. I was excited to see them both and catch up on life. As life would have it there were marriages and divorces and deaths - oh my! We reminisced about the classes and some memorable students they had. Kristi is mom to toddler Aubree (another Aubrie!! except with a different spelling). But all in all everyone is doing really well which is so nice to hear. It really was like old times. They both looked the same, talked the same, and it just brought me right back. I guess Facebook is good for something.
Listening to: Florence + The Machine's 'Hunger'. I am a new Florence fan thanks to Katie's insistence that I give her a shot. I'm not at Katie level but I definitely have a newfound love and appreciate for Florence. It all started with this particular song. I love how upbeat it is as she sings about real life shit. I've been dabbling in her other songs and she has this way of building songs with her voice and instruments. It's really cool.
Sugarland's 'Babe'. I actually like Sugarland. I'm pointing this out since I'm not too fond of today's country. But what really drove me to try this song is that my girl Taylor Swift wrote it and sings back up. Oh she's also in the cute video. I'm all for new Taylor but it's like getting a glimpse of old Tay which was equally as awesome. It's such a good break-up jam.
Maroon 5's Denim Jacket, Wait, and Girls Like You. These three songs are total bops. I don't know why I'm suddenly back into Maroon 5 after not really giving a shit about them since high school but I am and I'm not going to fight it.

Watching: Season 2 of GLOW. I finished that shit in one day because it is so good! I actually liked season 2 even more than the first because we could really explore the characters a lot better. If you're into bad ass ladies and have an equal love for the 80s what are you waiting for?!
Season 2 of Santa Clarita Diet. I finished this one in a few days. I just love the Hammonds and their fucked up little situation. Ahh! You don't even have to love zombie shit to enjoy this show because it's a comedy. Although there is a lot of gore. But it's lighthearted and edgy and funny as hell. I'm already itching for next season.
The Break with Michelle Wolf. Ever since the correspondence dinner where she shredded the Trump administration with every word she said she has been my new hero. Her show is just as funny and political. It's like Jon Stewart but with a more feminine spin. She talks about reproductive health a lot and choosing to be childfree so she's already got a leg up in my book. I get people are annoyed with her voice but if you can just look past it she's great.
