What I Wore #45

There is something always classy about mustard and grey. It's just such a sophisticated combo. This is a super simple outfit I wore to work on Monday. But as simple as it was I still felt really good. It's always how you feel in an outfit that makes it what it is. I just noticed how my strappy flats kind of matched my stripe shirt. This is going to be my new go-to for comfortable and put together.

Dustin Says

We've been on the same page for 11 years. We're really slow readers.

I like your dance moves but I'm also afraid of them.

I rather stare at the cat's asshole.

Me: What do you want for you birthday?
Dustin: Well, I already have a lightsaber so I have everything I need.

Philadelphia is like Donald Trump; sure it has history but it's mostly a piece of shit.

Best Birthday Brunch

Last Sunday I met up with Katie and the rest of her squad at Briarpatch in Winter Park for a little brunch action. I've always heard good things about it from friends but I had never eaten there myself so I was excited to try it out. I got there first and let the wait staff know how many were in our party. Unfortunately it was incredibly busy (I doubt it's never not busy on the weekend) so we waited for about 20 or so minutes. The restaurant itself is incredibly cute. I loved the whole vibe.

Once we were seated the whole table ordered mimosas. They looked delicious but I opted for apple juice as per usual. I had the hardest time deciding on what to order but finally I went with the raspberry lemon pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. I prefer a sweet breakfast than a hearty salty one. While we waited for our food to come out I forced Katie to open her presents. She was all like "...but I don't like opening things in from of everyone" in which I responded with "get over it. We want you to see your gifts." Ha!

She got so many cute things! Personally I got her the Trainwreck DVD because I know how much she loved that movie. I also got her a bracelet, candle, and mug tree. Oh and TWO cards. The thing is I found the "Murray" card like 6 months ago when I was looking for someone else. But since Murray is her maiden name I figured she'd get a kick out of it. But then I found the Oprah card on Etsy and was all like "yep, I'm getting this one too..." So whatever.

When the food came my mouth just about hit the floor while drool slid out. Everyones food looked so good. My raspberry lemon pancakes were to die for. I ate all of them! Damn right. I had hung out with Katie's friend Cristina for her Savannah birthday last year but met everyone else during her brunch. She's got some great people in her life. I had a lot of fun hanging out with everyone celebrating her 31st year.

It was just Katie, Renee, and I after brunch. Winter Park is a cute place to walk around and shop any day but that day was also their Art Festival. It was so crowded with a ton of venders all over the place. We went in and out of cute shop after cute shop.  Katie ended up with the coolest pair of overalls, Renee bought a pair of sunglasses, and I bought low top rain boots. The shopping was of course great but the company and overall atmosphere is what I will remember about Katie's 31st birthday. I hope it was everything you wanted. Not that I have to tell you but just incase you weren't sure, you're very loved.

DNA: 11 Years

If our relationship were a person, it would be going into middle school. How crazy is that?! At this point it all feels like a goddamn blur. I mean, 11 years is practically an eternity especially since we're only 30 years old. And how has it been 6 years since our wedding? I can't handle it. It's just too crazy how fast life passes by.

You go into a relationship hoping you'll be happy for awhile. You go into marriage hoping that you've found someone to share the rest of your life with. We hope but we never know for sure how things will turn out. I feel incredibly grateful and a bit lucky that I can still say that so far so good. Dustin is still the first person I call with any kind of news. He's my favorite thing about coming home after a long day. I still miss him when we've spent time apart. He's the one person that can make me laugh with life is going to shit. He compliments me in a way that no other guy could. All relationships have it's challenges and ours is no exception, but overall it's the easiest thing I've ever done.

Dustin said that 11 is such a random number. He's like "we've got to go big for 15 and definitely 20 years but 11 is a weird one". Yeah I can totally understand that because it is. To celebrate the randomness I bought an assortment of green (wrapping) snacks (gum, pringles, surge, etc) and hid them around the house before I left for work. The first clue was left on the bathroom counter for Dustin to find when he got home and went straight for the shower. I was so excited for him to get home and find it. He texted me "I got my first clue!" and I just grinned from ear to ear while I finished up my work day. When I got home he had dinner ready to go. He made steak (the best he's ever made), mac and cheese, and bread. All of the carbs! He also bought me roses and put them in my bad ass heart vase. We watched a movie while we ate then played with the cats. All in all it was a really great time.

We always like to do something for our anniversary but since our trip to the Pacific Northwest is only 3 weeks away we wanted to keep the celebration simple and cheap. I asked if he would go to Leu Gardens with me. I hadn't been (in the daylight) since high school. Dustin and I were there one other time for their movie in the park but we didn't get to walk around. I was worried our trip would get rained out so we decided to go right when they opened. We got right in and started our little garden adventure. We were told that the original house built in the 1800s was having a tour at 10. So we participated in the tour and learned a lot of interesting things about not only the gardens but Orlando.

For example: The property was the Leu's weekend house because back in those days it was considered out in the country and he and his wife wanted to be downtown during the week.  Also the rose garden had to be moved from it's original spot because the alligators kept ruining it.

After the tour we headed out to the lake and took in all the scenery. We watched a pretty big bird high in the tree tops next to an equally large nest. I wish I had binoculars to see it more clearly. It was a very overcast morning but we loved it. The lack of sun made it nice and breezy and not nearly as humid as it normally is.

Also, we got to enjoy David Rogers' Big Bug Invasion! There were huge bug sculptures placed all around the property. It was almost like they were meant to be there. Every time we'd find one I immediately felt like I was in 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids'. A rain drop hit me on the cheek as we were walking back. Then it started to rain once we got in my car. I felt bad for all the people who had just gotten there. Dustin and I had planned on going to The Cheesecake Factory for lunch but when we checked the radar and saw all the green and tons of red, we decided it was smarter to just get home. So we grabbed lunch from a drive-thru window and ate while the kittiots walked all over us and sniffed at our food. The storm outside didn't sound pretty. We were disappointed but it was definitely better than driving around in that mess.

Another one down! A lifetime to go.
