Seattle (Day One): In Town and Underground

Our flight took off from Orlando at 7 AM. It was a smooth five hours in the sky. I was able to watch a movie courtesy of Delta and get in a couple shows too. We landed in Seattle just before 10 AM (to bright blue skies - say whaaa), took a shuttle to get our rental, and were cruising into downtown by 11. Our first stop was FOOD. Sure, we were fed on the flight but it was only a couple slices of cheese and some apple slices. We stopped at Lunchbox Laboratory for some really good burgers. Like really good.

We headed just a few miles away to The Underground Tour which was highly recommended by a co-worker. From their website: "...a humorous stroll through intriguing subterranean storefronts and sidewalks entombed when the city rebuilt on top of itself after the Great Fire of 1889." Sign us right up! Our tour guide even said something along the lines of "I can't believe you all want to go underground on one of our two nice days a year!". I'll agree it was gorgeous out but I still wanted to go underground. We all followed our guide, Sam, a few blocks down the road from where we bought tickets. I felt like I was back in school on a field trip.

Look both ways! All eyes up here! Squeeze in. Is everyone here?

Before we all went down the small stairwell where most of us had to duck our heads to get inside, we walked on purple squares in the sidewalks on the street level. I originally thought they were just pretty decor but I soon found out from Sam that they were glass, installed on purpose when they rebuilt the city to give light to the underground, and turned purple over time due to the sun. Not long after going underground we could see just how this skylight effect worked. It was so pretty both from above and below. Throughout our trip I noticed glass sidewalks all over the city. There were bigger glass rectangles by the piers and even small circular ones in other parts of the city.

Sam walked us all around old storefronts where he filled our heads with so much Seattle history. He told us that there was a lumber mill at the top of the mountain and they slid logs down to the waterfront. This area became impoverished and soon was known as Skid Road which is where the term "Skid Row" comes from.

I'm so glad we were able to go on this tour. It was a lot of fun learning so much about Seattle and seeing it from a unique perspective.

After the tour Dustin and I checked into our hotel. We ooh'd and ahh'd over the cute room and view then proceeded to collapse into the bed. It was only about 6 PM but it was 9 in Orlando and we had been up since 3. So we called it a night and went to bed courtesy of those glorious black out curtains.

I sported my Taylor Swift "Starbucks Lovers" shirt for the day and even got a very enthusiastic compliment about it while we were walking on the street which made me feel all happy and shit. If you don't know the story you can catch up here

Double A Double K

I wasn't originally planning on attending last week's Deland Indie Market because it's May and too fucking hot. But then I realized I hadn't seen the girls in awhile and this was going to be the last chance to give Aubrie her birthday presents.

The minute I stepped out of my car I started sweating. It took all of 10 minutes to be completely drenched. It felt like there was a layer of slime on my entire body. My jeans clung to my legs because my legs were, YOU GUESSED IT, sweaty. I could feel drips of sweat rolling down my cleavage and back. My face was bright pink and glistening in the least attractive way you can imagine. All four of us complained about the heat the entire time because you just couldn't help it. It was that uncomfortable. I also heard strangers talk murmur their discomfort too as I walked by. All I could think about was that I'd be in Seattle in a week where the high is 67 glorious degrees.

Ok enough about me complaining about how gross Florida is...for now.

I ended up getting some really cool macrame pieces that Dustin called "grandma art". I got a small one that is hanging in my cube at work and a larger one that I'll be putting up in our house at some point. I'm just not sure where to put it just yet. I also got a new (and much needed) cat pot holder. I was close to buying a ton of plants but I held back because I didn't want to spend too much given that our trip is so soon. But watch out because I'll be taking my plant lady status to new heights soon enough.

After we walked around the market we drove down the street to visit Renee at Pretty Little Things. This is also where I had Aubrie open her birthday present because...air conditioning. I had been holding on to some of these presents of hers for months so I was pumped to finally give them to her. I got her the cutest romper from Old Navy, her first pair of wedges, a cute lip gloss/balm combo, and a photo book of all of my favorite photos (99% of them taken by me) of her since her birth. I was so excited she seemed to really love that one most.

I had the best few hours hanging with them. They filled my soul right up. I did, however, come home and crash for a few hours thanks to the heat. I just couldn't help one more jab at the misery of Florida heat.

Later that night I found the cards the girls made me. They gave them to me right when I saw them but I didn't have time to read them at the moment. I stood in my kitchen in awe of both. They were so incredibly sweet and funny and warmed me all over. This is what life is all about.

Dustin Says

For someone who is always constipated you have a real knack for clogging the toilet.

Her sideburn is reminiscent of The Rock in the mid 90s.

There is no way anyone is murdering me before I murder them first.

Let me joy you and then annoy you.

Me: Taylor Swift is going to talk with Robin Roberts at the draft tonight.
Dustin: Maybe her next surprise is she will be the number one pick.

I don't care...like a pubic hair on a chair.

Me: People love you.
Dustin: Well that's their problem.

Sometimes I feel bad for making fun of you but I get over it real quick.

I believe in aliens but they don't believe in me.

What I Wore #85

Do I look hella fresh or what?!

I call this look "Fresh Prince Goes To A Nirvana Concert". Dustin found both the hat and fanny pack and talked me into getting them. That's how this bright yet alternative look was born. Then I had to make one of the hardest decisions of my life: Nirvana shirt or Mario Kart? I kind of wanted both but that wasn't going to work. In the end I obviously went Nirvana. I still might go back and get the Mario Kart one because DUH.

There is no easier party to throw or attend right now than a 90s themed one. Fanny packs, overalls, jean skirts, baggy cargo pants, ribbed striped shirts, and track suits are everywhere! Most of it is stuff that is great for a party but I wouldn't touch in every day life. But there are a few things that surprise me.

Once a 90s kid, always a 90s kid.
