This Week (Month) In Photos

Untitled Untitled

On this week's "Who Wore It Best?" we've got Grandma Delores and Dustin sporting a very purple, very chevron, very ruffled apron. I think we're all in agreeance that Dee is the winner!

Untitled

This photo is the cutest which is why I decided to add it even though I did not take it and wasn't even there. Miranda and Pap = Selfies and Golf carts.

Untitled Untitled

I got the sweetest card in the mail from Katie. And inside the card were these beautiful earrings. The photo doesn't do them justice. I can't wait to wear them! Thanks again lady! // I'm not into Doctor Who but I thought this guitar was pretty bad ass. I want to mod lodge an old guitar.

Untitled

Be nice to postal workers! They are the best! (And nothing broke in this package!)

Untitled Untitled

Nail art inspired by OhDearDrea. Yeah, that's my pitiful Ritz bag just hanging out not falling. It's been a week and it's still there. Stuck. So dumb!

Untitled

I watched the whole thing from start to finish and it was just as awesome as when I watched it as a kid. Also, Dustin would pop in our room and dance during all the songs.

Untitled Untitled

Hey guys, I'm just in a dressing room with a huge mirror and couldn't resist the urge to take a photo. // Oh and the dressing room has this pretty chandelier.

Untitled

Yes, Dustin is wearing a Raphael helmet. Yes, I'm looking at him like he's nuts awesome.

Texting with Dustin is always a hoot!

This wall art is over in downtown Sanford. Pretty cool!

I found my bridesmaid dress for Sam's wedding! Already had the shoes! // Dustin in what he hopes  his groomsman attire will be. I can totally see it. Now we just have to wait 6 more months.

What I Wore #3

So one day Katie happened to mention a boutique she frequents in Lake Mary called Sophie & Trey. I was all like hey that's right down the road from me! So last Friday after work I went to "downtown" Lake Mary which is the cutest (and didn't even know it existed) to visit Sophie & Trey for the first time. First of all, I walked in after a long day at work and the girl who greeted me was super friendly and asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I wasn't. I was strictly there to browse. I didn't need anything. I wasn't even sure if I wanted anything. So I told her it was my first time and I was just going to look around. She told me they have FOUR different stores on the same road that feature different kind of clothes from just shoes and accessories to beach wear. I took this information in and I went about my browsing. I ended up with about four different things to try on. I liked a few of the items I tried on but I loved the ripped up jean shorts the most. And yeah, I totally bought those suckers. I practically skipped out of the place. I would like to say this is the most expensive pair of shorts I have ever owned. I usually don't go over $20 for shorts but once in awhile I just say "fuck it".    This was one of those times. No regrets. After I bought my shorts I walked across the street to look at their shoe collection. I plan on buying some sandals I tried on at a later date. I did however walk out with the cutest Florida necklace. Double win. Everything from all four stores can be found on their website and they ALWAYS have free shipping.

SPOILER WARNING: If you haven't caught up on True Blood, you may not want to proceed.

Wishing: a Happy Birthday to Miranda! It's crazy to think she was only 13 when Dustin and I got together. I've gone from driving her to Flagler Beach on the Saturdays Dustin had to work at Starbucks to shaking my head at those rebellious teen years of hers to being proud of her for moving out on her own just a couple weeks ago. It's been a wild ride but I'm lucky to call her my sister.

Listening to: I Seem Fun; The Diary of Jen Kirkman Podcast - A little backstory...So I was listening to the Monsters in the Morning a lot for the past few months because they had a Podcast section on the iHeartRadio app. which basically means talk radio without commercials and the option to fast forward. But then the Podcast section went down and as far as I know still hasn't been fixed and it's been weeks. Also, SBK left the show. So I was just over that whole thing. I also listen to Tom and Dan but I'm all caught up on their shows and sometimes they talk too much about things I have zero interest in lately. So I was telling Dustin I wanted to find some really awesome female Podcasts and that's when the light bulb went on - JEN! I've watched Jen Kirkman on Chelsea Lately, keep up with her on twitter, and read her awesome book about not wanting kids. I have heard her mention on several occasions that she has a podcast but I never thought to listen to it for whatever reason. Well I started listening to it last week and I'm already on episode 11. I love it! First of all, she records all the shows in her bed. She doesn't have any guests. No bits. It's literally just her talking about her life. I imagine it how it would be if I created an audiobook of all my LiveJournal posts. I enjoy listening to her while I'm getting ready for work, driving, and working out at the gym. It's like listening to a friend. She's cute, funny, and kind of crazy. So if you're bored with the radio or your current iTunes playlist, check out Jen's podcast. It's FREE!

As far as music goes I have of course been listening to Taylor Swift's Shake It Off. It's so fun, catchy,  and very Taylor. I can't wait to hear the rest of her new pop CD.

Watching: True Blood! The last episode ever! Ahh! I jumped on the True Blood bandwagon way late in the game. The show started in 2008 but Dustin and I didn't get HBO until 2011 so I had a lot to catch up on. I've been hooked ever since. Now that's not to say the show hasn't been awful at times because it has. I almost gave up on it several times. Some story lines were just so completely ridiculous or boring or didn't fit in. But overall I love that damn show. Jess has always been my favorite but I also really love Eric, Pam, Jason, & Lafayette.

I won't go into too much detail aka spoilers but I loved that Jess and Hoyt ended up married. I always loved them together. Also, her dress (and whole look) was beautiful. Now that's a wedding dress! Simple and elegant. No princess bullshit in the Compton house. I of course loved Eric's playful scenes in the series finale. Ha! So fun! I was pretty happy about how Sarah Newlin ended up. Yeah, you are a terrible person. By the end of this show I was so over Sookie. And Bill. And especially them together so I was perfectly happy with how their relationship ended. Overall I was happy with how the show went out.

one / two / three / four

I recorded the VMAs solely for Taylor Swift's performance. I watched all of 5 min of the entire two hours. I'd stop and watch and just make a face at the TV and fast forward again. First of all, who are 95% of the people at these shows? I recognized Gwen Stefani, Taylor Swift, and Lorde. That was about it. The show was terrible times a million. I didn't like any performance I saw (which was about 10 seconds of each one). And yeah, that even goes for Taylor. I thought her performance was so bland. I'm not expecting and certainly not wanting her to pull off a weird Miley finger foam twerkfest but I was expecting some originality in her style. Booo! I think it's time to do away with this whole awards show.

Reading: If I Stay by Gayle Forman - I didn't know this book existed until I heard the movie trailer say "based on the best-selling book..." which got me even more interested. I've always loved reading a book before seeing a movie. I can't do it backwards. If I've seen a movie I can't go back and read the book. The book always comes first or not at all. It's just some weird thing I have. I immediately wanted to see the movie but I figured I might as well read the book first because 98% of the time the book is just better. So I downloaded it on my Kindle on Sunday and have been flying through it. I'm 38% done and at this rate may finish it before the weekend. I feel like the ending will be predictable but that's just my guess.

I'd also like to note that I just finished A Wrinkle In Time last weekend. I've been checking off "classics" for years that I either never read in school or didn't pay attention to when I was forced to read it. This was a book I've always heard about but never read. It's technically a children's book but it felt more young adult to me. There were parts I found very interesting (time and space!) and entertaining (foreign planets and beasts!) but I hated one of the main characters - Charles Wallace. He has to be the creepiest five year old ever. Overall I think the book is overrated but it had some really awesome parts.

Looking forward to: This weekend! DUH! I could not be any more ready for this long weekend. Dustin and I have no plans of our own but I do have plans to see some of my favorite people. I can't wait for some serious girl hangs! Girl talk! Girl laughs! Yeah!

Emmys Fashion

I can't even explain this dress but I am in love with it. She looks like a piece of art. This definitely wins as my favorite dress of the night.

I love the colors and pattern of this dress. I'm a sucker for floral but especially when it looks so fairytale-like. However,  I don't like how it falls at the bottom. I think it would've looked even more fabulous had there been no poof and the fabric just hung straight.

When does Heidi not look good? Yeah, I'm still trying to figure that out too.

Ok, first of all you can't even tell that half her head is shaved which proves the diversity of that bad ass look. She looks flawless. Her hair, dress, pose! Get it girl!

The GoT ladies really brought their A-game. I love Lena with dark short hair showing off her tats. Her dress is what I'm going to call bad-ass elegance and she rocks it.

I would have hated this look on anyone else but it just works for Gwen.

I love the simplicity and subtle detail of this dress. High five Pipes!

I almost didn't even recognize Danielle aka Taystee. I love her whole look!

I don't think that I love the dress as much as I love her in it. I just think she looks great. The hunter green goes so well with her pale skin and dark hair. Also, congrats on the win! I've seen that comedy special and she's a riot!

I love Lena and all that she stands for. Girl has it going on! BUT sadly, this dress does not.

I love Lady Mary as much as the next girl but this dress is just not doing anything for her or me. Maybe it's just because I'm used to her 1920s attire.

I can't tell what's off (maybe the different bang look?) but this doesn't even look like Zooey. I would love the dress if it had fallen above the knee. I am not a fan of the length at all. Also, her lipstick color really clashed with her dress.

The Early November

The last time I saw The Early November was in the summer of 2006. I heard somehow (probably via Myspace) that they would be playing outside of the Virgin Megastore in Downtown Disney. At the time, I was working right off I-Drive and decided to go after I got off work. Who turns down a free/convenient show? Not this girl. So I went by myself and was apart of a very small crowd that enjoyed their performance. Soon after that show they decided to take a break/break up and didn't make new music together until 2011.

IMG_2693

So when I heard they were going out on an acoustic tour I was all kinds of excited. I bought tickets right away and wrote in on the calendar. Finally, August 1st had arrived. (Yeah, this post is way late. It happens! Whatev.) Dustin and I didn't have any interest in the opening bands. At all. So we took our time getting to the venue. We went out to dinner, then took a walk around Target, and got to the venue a little after 7. We still ended up having to sit through two opening acts which were not great. Womp womp. So we went to the infamous photobooth to waste a little time. We ended up with a perfect view of the stage (it's hard not to at The Social) and we were ready to go when TEN finally started playing.

IMG_9419

The place was full but not by any means packed. We all had room to move which was nice for us old folks. The entire show felt like we were all hanging out at someone's house. It was the most intimate and laid back show I've ever been to. Truly. It was amazing. Ace & Joe talked to us a lot which I thought was great. They'd tell us stories of the old touring days or just randomly talk about Nicolas Cage movies. After each song they would ask the crowd what song we wanted to hear next and everyone literally just yelled out a song and they would play it. I mean, how cool is that? No set list. And not only that but they played songs from all of their CDs and also from Ace's side projects (I Can Make a Mess & Ace Enders & a Million People). It was so fun. The energy in the room was just incredible. They also randomly broke out into a few covers of Save Tonight and All For You which was pretty fucking great. I honestly don't think Dustin and I laughed more at a show than we did that night. They made us all feel like we were just old friends hanging out listening and singing along to good music. They seem like the very coolest of cool and are also extremely talented. I'm so happy Dustin and I were able to experience them together.

Untitled

I know I say this every time I post a video of a show but please excuse my horrible hawrible voice throughout. It's just that I'm usually in the moment and I want to sing along but I also want to film a little too. It's not until later that I come home, move the videos to my computer and start editing when I realize there's another dying cat in my video.

What I Wore #2

I wore this one Saturday about a month ago. It's super comfy, super casual - yet put together. I had just gotten this shirt in the mail, and although my facial expression isn't showing it, I was super excited to wear it. I've loved Dark Cycle Clothing since I heard about them at the Big Bang Bazaar.  They have really good coupons so if you like their stuff you should sign up for their mailing list. I even bought Dustin this shirt last year. We're weird and like all things human anatomy related. I mean the body is just so neat and interesting. Also I love purple and I will wear it in every variation I can - as seen below.

Your People Collection

Today, while on my lunch break I was cruising Facebook when I had a really interesting thought while reading some comments on a photo of mine. This is going to sound the cheesiest but there is rarely any other time when everyone you care about/know will be in one place. That usually only happens at your wedding and funeral. And since you are dead at your funeral that one really doesn't count. Of course we aren't physically all in one place when we are reading each others status updates and watching each others videos. But we're interacting and doing so with all the crazy people we've collected along this adventure called life.

Where else can you discuss random topics with...
the kid you've known since middle school,
the cousin you used to be close to,
the old co-worker from 4 jobs ago,
your BFF you met in kindergarten & the one you met in college,
your go-to photographer,
your husband's friend that is now your friend too,
that random person you only met one time,
your sister-in-law,
your favorite teacher from elementary school,
etc. etc. etc.

Sometimes I forget Facebook isn't just your nearest and dearest. It is literally a collection of people. Some are a huge part of your life and others you only talk to via status updates or just stalk silently. It's still weird to me. There's a coolness about it for sure and that's coming from a Facebook hater.

A Movie Review Or Two (or Three)

Guardians of the Galaxy
I'd like to preface this by saying I had never heard of this comic before they started to make it into a movie. Dustin kind of filled in everything for me since we heard it was in production. That being said, I was super excited about it. Super heroes in space?! Sign me up. A bad ass raccoon? Let's fucking do this. A brand new movie and not a remake of a remake of a remake? THANK YOU!

So Dustin and I saw it the first weekend it was out a few weeks ago. They didn't offer a regular early time so we ended up going to an early IMAX 3-D viewing. Why not, right? I've only seen 3 movies in 3-D (including this one) and it's not my favorite but I can get through it.

There is so much I love about this movie. I loved the soundtrack which was more than just background music. I felt it added to the overall movie and storyline. I loved the humor. OMG, this movie was hilarious and probably the furthest Marvel has gone comedy-wise. There's a ton of adult jokes that will go way over a kids head. I loved that it was mainly set in outer space because DUH space is awesome and never gets old. There were some seriously beautiful scenes that I need to find on the internet so I can use them as my desktop background. The character's were amazing. Chris Pratt as Star Lord was genius casting. I've loved him since his Everwood days. I watch him every week in Parks and Rec. But to see him as a super hero, one that he plays really really well, was just amazing. I knew I'd love Rocket the Raccoon from the trailer but what I did not realize is how much I would love (LOVE!) Groot. He made me cry on multiple occasions! Yeah, I cried. It's dare I say one of the best Marvel movies ever. Dustin and I can't wait to own it and watch it all the damn time!

Divergent
I finished reading the entire book series at the beginning of this year after hearing about it for awhile. The first book was my favorite of the series so I was hoping the movie would be just as good. Dustin and I had tried to see it when it came out in theaters but March is always a crazy month so we never got around to it. We finally rented it off Xbox Friday night. I thought it was VERY true to the book. I was actually surprised by how true it was because there's a lot to explain and to get through. It was long (2 hr 20 min) but it needed to be. Also, it never dragged so I didn't mind one bit. My biggest complaint with the movie was the Tris and Four/Tobias romantic plot. It was there but wasn't a major part of the movie at all. I remember the book emphasizing their romance a lot more but I could just be remembering wrong. Overall I loved it. Dustin did too even though he said it's a different version of The Hunger Games. He's not wrong. All these dystopian heroine stories are very similar.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
When I first heard a new TMNT was coming out I was ecstatic. Hell yeah! Turtle power! Then I heard Megan Fox was going to be April and I was like NOOOOO. I've just never been a fan of hers. She seems perfectly nice but she is a horrible actress and her face always looks different. So that was strike number one. Then the movie poster was released with the actual CGI turtles. I was not happy. They looked crazy with their super tall, jacked up selves. They were so far from any other versions over the years that I could not jump on board. I told Dustin I didn't even want to see this movie in the theaters. He agreed they looked a little nuts but he was still into it.

We decided a month ago that we'd still go see the new movie in theaters. We went into it with zero expectations and came out having enjoyed it. Sure there were things I wasn't a huge fan of like the fact it took forever for us to actually see the turtles on screen, and also that once we did, there wasn't much downtime of them hanging out in their sewer. Because Michael Bay thinks over the top is better, he makes movies that have a million more explosives or fight scenes. It's dumb but it is what it is. This movie was way more action packed than I expected, a little too much so. The camera didn't stay on a single turtle for more than 2 seconds. The new look of the turtles actually has grown on me. I of course love Donatello the most and pointed out that he copied me with the glasses. Or maybe I was the inspiration behind his new four eyed look? Yeah, probably not. Overall though I thought it was fun nod to our beloved childhood heroes in a half shell. It's already been announced a second one will hit theaters in 2016 but this time leave Michael Bay out and slow it down a bit.
