Busiest Day Ever

FRIDAY: We rented Real Steel and got only about half way through when Dustin's friend imessaged him with a little note to me. It went something like "Dear Mrs. Dmaff, Please let your husband pause your movie tonight for an hour so he can play in the playoffs." It cracked me up so obviously I was fine with pausing the movie so Dustin could play hockey (xbox). However, during this time I totally fell asleep - at 7:30. I don't know what my problem is with staying awake on Friday night but damn 7:30 might be my new record. Dustin scared the shit out of me because he woke me up around 9 with so much excitement. My eyes weren't even open and he was screaming "WE WON! WE'RE CHAMPS! WE GET A BANNER!". So congrats to him and the other hockey buds for winning their first championship game. We ended up watching the rest of Real Steel later on and it turned out to be really good. I wasn't so sure from the previews but I definitely like it. I mean how cute is Hugh Jackman and the kid? Plus the robot DOES THE ROBOT.

SATURDAY: I went to yoga with Erin as per usual. I don't know why but they had it super hot in the building and it made me feel sick the whole time. Ugh. So that wasn't the most fun class.

I came home and showered and we were off to look at some new places. Our lease ends soon and we need/WANT more space. The first one was nice but it wouldn't be much extra space than we have now - for more money. BUT it was in a fantastic gated neighborhood. The second one was awesome! So much room and completely updated. It had such a cozy feel to it too. However the price was a tad high and it was on a busy street.

After the the house hunt we decided to get some lunch. I had one of those Visa gift cards so our meals cost around $13 afterwards. Dustin and I always tip well if we have an exceptional server and we just so happened to have one of the best ever. She was polite, friendly, funny, and ON IT. This girl was a ninja on bringing more drinks and whatever else we needed without us even asking. She would have gotten an excellent tip regardless but Dustin thought it would be extra nice if he tipped her what he had expected to pay (before I reminded him of the card). So he gave her a 50%+ tip. I hope it made her day.

We headed home and watched 50/50. I love Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I've actually had dreams that he and I were dating. Ridiculous. But awesome. Kind of pathetic. Still awesome. That movie does such a good job with balancing all the seriousness of cancer with humor. And of course Sam called me right as it was ending and thought something was wrong because I was clearly crying like a lunatic. Sam ended up coming over and we had a good time catching up.

I had plans to go to Erin's birthday dinner so I left Sam and Dustin at the house for a few hours. They watched hockey and what not. I got to the Cheesecake Factory right at 7:30PM. The first one of the group to arrive. The place was so packed it took me 10 minutes and 100 circles around the parking lot to find a spot. Then I about passed out when they told me there was a 75 minute wait - as in OVER AN HOUR. WTF. I'm a very impatient person and if it had been Dustin and I, we would have given up in the parking lot. But Erin wanted to wait because then the rest of our party could hang out and have drinks. As a person who never drinks, I didn't even think of this. I just go to restaurants to eat. But it made perfect sense. So we all hung out for over an hour at the bar discussing Modern Family and a million other fun things. She's got a nice group of girl friends and I'm happy that she felt special and important that night - because she is. I wasn't even hungry for dinner (because of that huge lunch earlier in the day) so I opted for one giant slice of Dutch Apple Cheesecake. Oh man. It was like we were the only two in the room. Just me and my lovely cheesecake.

Sam and Dustin were still hanging out and facetiming with Pat when I got home. We all sat around and made fun of various television shows. It was a lot of fun. It was like the last two years hadn't even passed us all by. I love that we are all such good friends. There's something very comforting about it. And I could use some comfort right now - that's for damn sure. We all ended up playing Buzz Word until 1AM. The best part was when Pat mispronounced 'hors d'oeuvres'. We all couldn't stop laughing. It was great. I'm still laughing. I even have it on video...

I can't remember the last time I did so much in one day. I don't actually think I've ever done that much.

SUNDAY:
We actually slept in until 10AM. That never happens. It was nice but I swear it made my day seem much shorter. We made breakfast and literally laid around all day. I moved from couch to bed to couch back to bed. Lounging, iphoning, tv-ing, reading, napping.

Simple hair via The Paper Mama.
This hairstyle surprised me with how easy it actually was. It took me all of 3 minutes and 4 bobby pins. I like it because it LOOKS like I spent a lot of time on it. Also, it gets all my hair up and off my face/neck. AND finally, it just looks awesome. It's a fun messy up do. I've already worn my hair like this twice in the past 3 days - once to work and last night when I didn't feel like straightening it to go to a birthday dinner.

Apple Pancakes.
If you know anything about me, you know I love apples. I love apple juice, whole apples, apple sauce, apple pie, etc. I kind of just sounded like Bubba in Forrest Gump. Whatever. The point is that I have never seen this lovely creation and wanted to try it immediately. Thankfully, I always have an apple in the fridge and weirdly enough I didn't have to buy a single thing to make this. My friend Melody bought me an awesome apple peeler two Christmas' ago and it really came in handy this morning. I peeled the apple, dipped the apple ring in the pancake mix, and set it on the griddle. It was super easy and tasted amazing. It has quickly become my new favorite breakfast item.

I don't know anything about skiing or the athletes who enjoy the sport. I just came across this video on a website announcing Sarah Burke, one of the best female skiers, had passed away. It's so very sad. She was obviously very talented but what I love most about the video is the love she has with her husband. I'm a sucker for a love story and it looks like they had a great one.

What Madeline did - one second at a time. The absolute coolest. If this whole photo a day for a year works out, you better believe this will be my project come 2013.

Currently...

Obsessing over: Finding a new place to live! Right now I have three different rental apps on my iPhone. I can't wait to delete them.

Working on: Not giving a shit about little annoyances. I've been really trying to focus on the positive things in my life instead of dwelling on the negative. It's tough and it takes all I have sometimes but I ultimately feel better when I do it.

Thinking about: If I should play Sims 3 or watch TV in bed? Serious decision time.

Anticipating: Erin's home cooked meal in her new place tomorrow AND her birthday dinner this weekend!

Listening to: Safe & Sound (The Hunger Games Soundtrack) - Taylor Swift feat. The Civil Wars. It's got a kind of pretty yet haunting sound going on. I listen to it while getting ready for work, on my way to work, at work, and after I get home from work.

Eating: Just choked on some beef stroganoff. That was a lot of fun. I'm still recovering from the panic attack it gave me.

Wishing: I wasn't so stubborn. I felt more appreciated.

day twenty two

football didn't interest me.
so i spent my sunday evening watching this.

It was a Good Day for a Good Day

Dustin and I went up to PC to visit Matt & Rachelle. It was the first time I had been there in a year - since we moved. I was super excited to go because well, I actually miss that small little town. There's something about it. It's got a lot to do with it's overall charm, few red lights, and affordable new construction homes but it's mostly because that's where Dustin and I met, where we started our family together, and where I spent some of my favorite adult years. It'll always make me nostalgic.

We hung out with M&R at their house for awhile. We got to see Matt feed a really weird looking fish (I swear this thing had legs) with another type of fish , fall backwards into a giant bean bag, and watch Matt do P90X moves in their kitchen. It was all just as much fun as it sounds.

Then it was off to try the Olive Lobster or Red Garden - whichever you prefer. This has got to be one of the weirdest restaurant plans ever. Sure, I've seen KFC and Long John Silvers team up or some other random fast food but whose idea was it to combine a Red Lobster and Olive Garden?

We ate at the Red Lobster side. We quickly learned that you could get to the other side only through the restrooms! How strange is that? Dustin and Matt were scheming to sneak alfredo sauce over. However, it never did pan out. We were convinced that the calamari we ordered was actually OG calamari. It was way too crunchy to be RL. The food was alright but not nearly as good as usual. My baked potato looked like it had been dropped into a bucket of salt. Oh well, I'll take good company over good food anytime.

Then it was on to have 'Target Funnies' which is where you just kind of roam around getting into shit. While there I was able to find the cutest wedges for only $8! I love sales. Sales rule.

Matt and Rachelle declined our invitation to see Haywire but we went anyway. It stars Gina Carano aka Crush from American Gladiators aka MMA fighter. Dustin has been head over heels for this girl for years. Check out this horrible photoshop I did for his 23rd birthday. That picture of 'him and Gina' has been on our fridge ever since. I give him a hard time about her any chance I get but truth is she's pretty, in shape without being too skinny or muscly, and she fucking kicks ass. I totally approve of this celebrity crush 100%. Hell, after seening her in Haywire I might even have a girl crush on her. She did such a good job for her first major acting role. The fight scenes were even more awesome knowing that she has fought people in real life. She's not an actress who trained for a choreographed fight scene - she's a fighter who just so happened to get into acting. I want the brown leather jacket she wore in the Dublin part of the movie. I really hope to see her in more action movies (word on IMDB is she might be in the next Percy Jackson movie! Eeee!) Dustin wants to see her as Wonder Woman and I suggested they re-do Tomb Raider. Check out the trailer. And here's half of a bad ass fight clip. And then there is of course this and this in GQ. Get it girl!

Over heard old lady in the movie theater to her husband: "I just love her because she's so beautiful." This had me cracking up.

We were hoping to see some other friends of ours but turned out he had to work all day and it never worked out. Looks like we will have to go back up that way and visit again real soon.

day twenty one

Growing Like a Weed

It's 7:04 AM on a Saturday and I'm up typing, partly because really loud birds that hate to sleep live outside of our house but mostly because Dustin had to go in to work this morning. He's not happy about it. I'm not happy about it. We both have come to the conclusion that we will just go with it. We won't let it ruin our weekend. And why would we?

It's frustrating though when we both work all week and every day we talk about how we "can't wait for the weekend!". We live for time together - weekends where we are allowed to sleep past 6 AM, take a shower whenever we feel like it, and choose if we want to even leave the house or not. Freedom. Weekends mean freedom. Weekends mean quality time with my husband. Cherished moments.

After, almost SEVEN years together I still get giddy to leave work at 5 PM and go home to him. He's always waiting by the door to give me a 'welcome home hug'. Lately, we have lived in such limbo between job hunting and wondering where we will live come the end of February that we really have to remind one another what's truly important - us. Sometimes we get wrapped up in all the adult life shit that it's hard to remember there was a time where we didn't care what jobs we had or where we lived as long as we were together. Every day together. That's what starting out long distance can do to a relationship. It teaches you to appreciate any time spent together. Dustin reminded me of that last night. I get so wrapped up in little things that I forget the bigger picture. It's something that seems like will be forever a work in progress with me. I have hope though that someday I will learn to relax and just be. Just sit still and be.

Fuck finding the perfect job or house. Fuck the worrying and stressing. I already have what every person longs for - LOVE. That's all I've ever wanted. And I've GOT IT! How lucky I am! The other shit will work itself out one way or another. I have a feeling that I will come out on the other side of all this even better. That's one of the great things about this time in my life - I feel like I have never grown so much as a person than I have in my twenties. As hard as it can be at times, I'm still thankful for all the life lessons that have come my way.

So for now I'm going to go get ready for the day and wait until Dustin gets home from work so we can get this beautiful Saturday started.

We got this shit.

I am just as obsessed with Pinterest as the next girl. I mean it's pretty similar to tumblr which is another site I enjoy. I don't want to be one of those girls who repins until the cows come home but doesn't actually try anything. So I've been trying things out here and there when I have time.

Glowing skin. I have used this a few times now. It works so well! Seriously recommend it. My skin feels so soft and refreshed.

Buffalo Chicken Wrap. We tried this about a month or two ago and it did not work out. At all. For some reason the bread didn't cook all the way in the middle and we were left with gooey, mushy Buffalo Chicken. We had to throw the whole thing out. FAIL.

day sixteen

oh technology, you're the best.

Flower Power

FRIDAY: Dustin and I fell asleep at 8:30pm like a bunch of bums. I woke up around 11 to turn off computers, tvs, and lights. Guess we were tired.

SATURDAY: We slept in, even after getting quite the head start. So much sleep! It was kind of nice. Then we went to pick up my brother for the day. We owed him a Christmas present - so the first order of business was to figure out what he wanted because he kept telling us over and over he didn't NEED anything. We were going to get him something before Christmas, then I was going to just get him a gift card, but Dustin talked me into letting him pick out what he wants. This seemed like the best option because what do you get a teenager these days anyway?! Dustin told him how much he has liked playing Battlefield lately so that's what he chose. We came back to the house and the boys played Battlefield for hours. Cody was most interested in the helicopters and tanks. So they went back and forth playing so he could get used to the game.

We took a lunch break with some kind of sausage sub thingy. Dustin was really excited to make these damn things and even though I wasn't convinced I would like them - I tried one because apparently that's how relationships last. It consisted of a really giant bun, sausage on the grill, marinara sauce, and mozzarella cheese (I like to pronounce 'mozzarella' like I'm Giada. Try it. Fun, right?) It was one of the messiest things I've ever ate but it turned out to be pretty damn good.

We spent the rest of the night watching the Tebows get their ass kicked by the Patriots. Pretty funny! I didn't see one mention of his name in my news feed that evening. Yes! No more Tebow talk until August. Not long enough but I'll take it. We also watched Daniel Radcliffe on SNL and it was a little painful. Daniel was great but the sketches were terrible. The only one I liked was weekend update where he dressed as a dog. And what was up with Lana Del Rey?! Girl can't sing live. Such a shame.

SUNDAY: We had a whole plan. But like I've said before - why even bother with plans? I swear I will never learn my lesson with that. We decided to leave the house around 10AM and grab breakfast at Cracker Barrel. Then we would head on over to Tampa for the game. Cracker Barrel was packed. We decided to just hop on the highway and we would pick something up along the way. We saw another Cracker Barrel (this time in the middle of nowhere) - also packed with a wait. At this point we are both starving and annoyed. Then we see a sign for Five Guys BUT of course the exit the sign told us to get off of is wrong. We go a few miles out of the way and get back on the highway - IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. We were so pissed at the situation and annoyed with each other (because of the situation) that we were ready to just go home. But we stuck it out and wouldn't you know it - finally found those Five Guys! We were much happier with a full stomach.

We made it to Tampa around noon and sat in downtown traffic for a good 30 minutes before we were able to find parking. Tampa is nothing special. It's almost as annoying as Jacksonville. ALMOST. We were able to get to our seats just as the national anthem started. We were pretty worried about this game because Sidney is still out and they haven't been doing very well for the last couple weeks.

Two goals within the first 10 minutes of the first period! Then by the second period we were all tied up. Booo. A couple fights and two ejected players later we scored again - taking the lead. Then again! In a last ditch effort to get a goal or two more, the Bolts pulled their goalie, leaving an open net. An open net that Geno just so happened to fling the puck in. Final score 6-3 PENGUINS. It was so good to walk away from that game with a win.

We rode back home with happy hearts and those damn Cracker Barrel signs taunted us the entire way.

Video from the game. (Edited entirely on my phone. The voice over is nerdy. I know.)

what an infected eye looks like.

Zombie Zombie Zombie Eye

A few weeks ago I woke up with a really red right eye. I didn't even notice it was as bad as it was until a co-worker pointed it out midday. So I made an appointment but ended up cancelling because it had cleared up within a few days. BUT I woke up this morning with the same damn problem in the same eye. Ugh. I was able to get in on my lunch break. The doctor made me read some letters on the wall, looked in my eye with a light, put yellow drops in my eye, and then he tried to lift my eyelid open with a q-tip. WTF. I did not like it one bit and even had a mini meltdown. He asked if he was hurting me and I felt like an idiot because it's not that it hurt. It just creeped me the fuck out. It's like nails on a chalkboard kind of thing. He didn't seem very sympathetic. Cut me some slack dude, my eye looks like I am transitioning into a zombie! I'm a little on edge. Obviously. The only issue was the redness and it was slightly uncomfortable. No pain, no itching, no gross crust. He ruled out pink eye and a scratch. Just said I had a bacterial infection. He doesn't know for sure how I got it but he suggested it could be from old eye make-up. This is definitely a possibility as I hardly wear make-up to begin with so I hold on to it longer because it takes forever for me to use it all. So he told me to throw them all away as a precaution. Also, I got to pay $30 WITH INSURANCE for some fancy medicated eye drops with the most complicated directions. Good thing Dustin understands them. He's going to be my official dropper for the next week.

Commenting on how dark it was in the middle of nowhere: "This is where light goes to die."

Dishwasher turned on by itself: "It's become self-aware."

"Family are strangers you're related to."

"I want to go to the opposite of 'Cheers' - where no one knows my name."

"Do you want to watch Beverly Hills Chihuahua?"

After I found his shorts hanging from his closet door and his hoodie hanging off our bedroom TV, the conversation went like this:
Me: "Didn't you hang up your clothes in your closet as a child?"
Dustin: "No, my closet was filled with more important things - toys."

"I don't want to win the lottery to buy nice things. I want to win the lottery so we can spend more time together."

Peeves (Not the Poltergeist)

The annoyances that run through my brain on any given day:

-People who like two football teams. You're not a true fan if you cheer on the 49ers AND the Redskins. Just pulled those teams out of my ass. Actually forgot either team existed until just now.

-Long fingernails. Ew.

-When couples call each other 'mama' and 'papa'. Gross.

-When people spray perfume in public places. Do it at home.

-People who wear glasses without prescription lenses. Either you need glasses to see clearly or you need them to block out the sun. Wearing them JUST as an accessory annoys me.

-The word 'hubby'.

-Those little family stickers on the back of cars.

-I hate when someone is called an aunt but is actually a family friend. Or a nephew that is actually a cousin. But for the record, I am totally fine with people the who say "she's LIKE AN AUNT!". I'm weird.

-When someone responds and/or ends a conversation with the letter 'K'. I don't even get an O? WTF. Every time someone does this to me I immediately think they are mad at me. It comes off so mean! For real. It does.

day four

not the most fun temperature.

Revenge

Dustin got me the fourth season of Everwood for Christmas. It is one of my all time faves. The kind of TV show I watch every summer, start to finish, while my other shows are on summer break. This is also a show Dustin likes as well so we started watching it immediately. We'd watch 2-3 episodes a night until - sigh - it was over. When it ended, I seriously felt like my best friend had moved to another country. I missed the Abbotts and Browns and that wonderful small town. It's kind of pathetic to admit but I was a little bummed for a day or so after it was all over. Four seasons is NOT ENOUGH!

I have heard really good things about the new show Revenge, starring
Amy AbbottEmily VanCamp but I really didn't have any interest in it. That was until I started longing for more Everwood. So I took what I could get and can now say that I have watched all 10 episodes in a matter of 3 days. It's a pretty unrealistic show with crazy over the top characters but it's still entertaining in the 'guilty pleasure' kind of way. So for now, I'm hooked.

But come summer, Dustin and I will travel back to Everwood. We'll grab a bite to eat at Mama Joy's and then hang out with our friends Ephram, Amy, Bright, & Hannah. I can't wait for THAT vacation.

day three

Plans

I love making plans. Having plans. Keeping plans. I like things to be scheduled, calculated and organized. It's just who I am. But I should know by now that nothing ever goes to plan. Sometimes they can go terribly wrong and other times it works out and turns into something even better than the original PLAN.

For example:
Not long after Dustin and I started dating we had plans to go to a Copeland show. I remember him having some kind of gift card and ended up buying us two tickets. I was so excited to go. To see a band I loved with someone I was starting to love. Perfect combo! My friend was also planning on going with us but she decided to buy her ticket at the door - except the show was sold out. We weren't about to go in without her so Dustin sold the tickets to two girls and we took my friend home. We then drove to the park - 'our' park. It was that night Dustin told me he loved me for the first time. It's funny how a disappointing night can really take a turn for the amazing. And years later I even got to see Copeland a few times before they called it quits. Everything happens for a reason.

My plan was to finish paying off my car. I only had 3 payments left to go and then I could save that extra money for a year or so to put a down payment on a newer car. That's been my plan for awhile now. Two weeks ago I had to pay $300 to have my car fixed. Then last week I had to take it in again. I got the call at work that it would cost approximately $1,000 to fix. My heart just sunk. I called Dustin with tears already starting to form in my eyes. He said we would work it out. We always do. I was reluctantly going to pay for it to be fixed but the more I thought about it, the more I thought it was a stupid idea. $1,000 for a 10 year old car that's already given me a lifetime worth of problems? Just dumb. I told Dustin we were going to pick it up after I got off work and then we would start to look for a newer used car. That night Dustin found a car online that was a year or two old with super low miles for a price I could afford. I made an appointment for the next day. I was going to buy it. The papers were actually being signed and then it happened - they offered me a BRAND NEW car that was a step up from the one I was buying. Better car. Better warranty. Only $15 more a month but still in my budget. So I took it.

My plan didn't work out at all and yeah I'll have a car payment for awhile but I feel like this is the way it was supposed to go. I'm just so happy I have a reliable car and with a warranty! I've never had either of those things before.

I will still continue to make plans in my head for everything in my life but I have at least learned now that it's ok if things don't work out the way I had envisioned them to. Sometimes there are better plans out there that I never dreamed of.

day two

indoor golfing.

day one

"that flame is raging" - dustin

Ok 2012, let's do this!

I have been waiting for 2012 since pretty much the beginning of 2011. 2011 was just one of those years...

Last year my New Years Resolution was to wear more accessories. I definitely accomplished this goal (thanks to the help of many awesome friends who got me jewelry as presents!) I've been thinking a lot about what I want out of this next up coming year and I've come up with this:

Deal with My Problems BETTER - I am hoping (fingers crossed) that this year is much better than last but every year has hiccups. Every year has hurdles. I really want to try and handle them better. So I'm telling myself to not overreact, don't panic, keep calm, find a solution, talk it out, and move on.

Photos - Just for fun I am going to TRY with the best of intentions to do one of those 365 days of photos project. I'll start today and post them here.

It's already going to be a busy month but I'm excited for things to come. Here's to two thousand twelve!
