Dustin Says

I mean, I knew she had a birthday coming up sometime this year.

I was born in West Virginia which means I was delivered by a rat that chewed through my umbilical cord.

You know how I'd like to describe Monday's? A flick to the nuts.

Me: It's called macrame.
Dustin: I call it "yarn on a stick".

Dustin: I can't wait until 2021.
Me: Why?
Dustin: Because then I can say "hindsight is 2020".

Immerse

A couple months ago I saw on Creative City Project's instagram start to advertise about Immerse. I had heard about it for years but didn't really know what it was but I did know I wanted to go. So I asked Katie if she and the girls would be interested. She asked me what it was and I said "I'm not sure but it looks cool." and that was all she needed to join me. That's what friend do, right?

Not only was it supposed to rain all weekend but I woke up Friday to news there was a Tropical Storm in the gulf making it's way across the state. Cool.

Immerse emailed me that this was a "rain or shine" event so Katie and I tried to decide which night would be better. I looked at all the forecasts and we ultimately decided to go Friday. She and the girls came over and then I drove us all downtown. There were a ton of road closures and some traffic so I thought we may need to park somewhere and Uber the rest of the way. Thankfully I found a garage and we walked right into Immerse without issue but WITH all the rain gear I owned. Seriously though Katie and I were both carrying my raincoats and I had emergency ponchos in my purse for the girls. Bring on the damn rain!

We walked around, stopped here and there, watched this and that, and posed in front all of it. I wish we could've seen more performances but out of the ones we did see I really loved the aerial one.

As we were walking to the experiences on the Dr. Phillips Performing Arts lawn we ran into Paul the Poet. He had a sign that read "Pick any topic. Get a poem." He warned us that there were a few people in front of us and each poem took approximately 7 minutes. So we waited. Then it started to sprinkle so a group of people helped him move his typewriter station under a tree. Then we waited some more. I ran into my childhood friend Colby and her son. Then we waited a little more. Aubrie and I decided to check out the main stage and watched a snippet of a performance. Once we returned to Paul he was packing up his stuff because of the rain. He was nice enough to take our topics down and email address.

We decided to check out the corkcicle experience first. It was an open area with open storage containers around the perimeter. Each container had a different theme and photo op. Also each one had tons of corkcicle bottles as part of the decor. Aubrie noticed a couple people taking the bottles and went up to a person on staff and asked her if they were free. When she responded no Aubrie pointed out those that were stealing the bottles and just walking off. Katie and I were so proud that she took the initiative to do the right thing and alert someone of what was going on.

We then went right next door to the Architects of Air experience which is this huge inflatable structure that you can walk through as if you're walking through tunnels or veins of a bounce house - without the bouncing. We all were given a map, took off our shoes, and were let loose inside where it was nice and cool with very tranquil music playing. We took more photos. We laid on our back to look look at the ceiling. We got lost. We laughed about it.

Immerse was everything! I highly recommend you go next year when it rolls around again. I truly had the best time enjoying art in it's many forms and sharing it all with my fam.

Addict For Dramatics

Last Tuesday Dustin and I went to go see Taking Back Sunday for their 20th anniversary show. They played back to back shows in Orlando. They did this in a few cities while touring this time around and as you can see from the graphics below we got to see them toss the coin. We got Tell All Your Friends AND Louder Now. Dustin was a tad bummed we didn't get the other album but they're all great so there were no losers. We also paid a bit more to have balcony seating because WE OLD. We just prefer to watch from seats whenever necessary. Also it's a pretty cool view seeing everyone mosh around. It was a great time. Lots of singing and lots of mic swinging. It wouldn't be a TBS show without it.

Some of my favorite lyrics from TAYF and Louder Now...

So sick, so sick of being tired.
And oh so tired of being sick.

Everything I know about breaking hearts
I learned from you, it's true

This is me with the words on the tip of my tongue
And my eye through the scope
down the barrel of a gun
Remind me not to act this way again

Cause I'm a wishful thinking with the worst intentions
This'll be the last chance you get to drop my name

I'm an addict for dramatics
I confuse the two for love

You are everything I want
Because you are everything I'm not
