I wasn't originally planning on attending last week's Deland Indie Market because it's May and too fucking hot. But then I realized I hadn't seen the girls in awhile and this was going to be the last chance to give Aubrie her birthday presents.
The minute I stepped out of my car I started sweating. It took all of 10 minutes to be completely drenched. It felt like there was a layer of slime on my entire body. My jeans clung to my legs because my legs were, YOU GUESSED IT, sweaty. I could feel drips of sweat rolling down my cleavage and back. My face was bright pink and glistening in the least attractive way you can imagine. All four of us complained about the heat the entire time because you just couldn't help it. It was that uncomfortable. I also heard strangers talk murmur their discomfort too as I walked by. All I could think about was that I'd be in Seattle in a week where the high is 67 glorious degrees.
Ok enough about me complaining about how gross Florida is...for now.
I ended up getting some really cool macrame pieces that Dustin called "grandma art". I got a small one that is hanging in my cube at work and a larger one that I'll be putting up in our house at some point. I'm just not sure where to put it just yet. I also got a new (and much needed) cat pot holder. I was close to buying a ton of plants but I held back because I didn't want to spend too much given that our trip is so soon. But watch out because I'll be taking my plant lady status to new heights soon enough.
After we walked around the market we drove down the street to visit Renee at Pretty Little Things. This is also where I had Aubrie open her birthday present because...air conditioning. I had been holding on to some of these presents of hers for months so I was pumped to finally give them to her. I got her the cutest romper from Old Navy, her first pair of wedges, a cute lip gloss/balm combo, and a photo book of all of my favorite photos (99% of them taken by me) of her since her birth. I was so excited she seemed to really love that one most.
I had the best few hours hanging with them. They filled my soul right up. I did, however, come home and crash for a few hours thanks to the heat. I just couldn't help one more jab at the misery of Florida heat.
Later that night I found the cards the girls made me. They gave them to me right when I saw them but I didn't have time to read them at the moment. I stood in my kitchen in awe of both. They were so incredibly sweet and funny and warmed me all over. This is what life is all about.
