My Mad Fat Diary - This is a British show that is available on Hulu. I've got only two episodes left and I am already mourning the loss of it. The show is about Rae Earl who is just getting out of rehab and how she adapts to life with more freedom. I love how central a role mental illness plays. The show is a dramedy but it doesn't back down from showing some truly real things. It's funny as hell but it will also break your heart. Oh, AND it's set in the late 90s so an automatic win. Highly recommend!
The Hills: New Beginnings - I know I KNOW. I'm usually not into reboots 95% of the time but this one is great. It totally takes me back to my early twenties when I would watch the original one. I miss Lauren but she's off being successful in her career while juggling a family. I'm still not over the fact she married my boyfriend William Tell. I digress. The show is still just as drama filled and entertaining. Justin Bobby still wears boots to the beach and leads Audrina on. Spencer and Brody are still in a douchebag competition with each other. I'm enjoying every ridiculous second.
Healing: my new tattoo. It's been almost a week since I got my Felicity tattoo. It is currently itchy and crusty but once fully healed she's going to be super badass.
Felicity is my all time favorite TV show ever and I have watched a lot of TV in my life. A whole lot of great TV but no show made me and still makes me feel the way Felicity does. If you've never seen it, shame on you, and also it's on Hulu. But the short of it is Felicity follows a boy she's always had a crush on but never knew in high school from California to NYC for college. It aired during the same time Dawson's Creek did so lots of late 90s teen angst. I love me some DC but I could relate to Felicity in so many ways (she's all about her feelings, friends, fiercely independent, and finding herself) and the ways I wasn't like her, I totally wanted to be (perfect student, talented artist, always going out of her comfort zone). It is a really well done "teen(ish) drama". I always loved how much they show of them actually in class, actually studying, or cramming for exams along with the typical college parties and boy drama. It was a nice overview of what I hope college life back then was actually like. That's another thing - I never went away to college. I never had the experience of leaving my hometown, living in a dorm, and focusing on school. There's a part of me that really wishes I had had that experience and not even for the degree. Degrees don't mean much to me. It's a huge accomplishment for a lot of reasons but people act like that is all that they are. I never want to be known for a degree, known for a job. Those are the absolute last things I'd want someone to say about me at my funeral. I am me and what makes me special is a million different things least of all is my academic accomplishments or lack thereof. There is such a nostalgia I get every time I watch the series and it feels like home. The way re-reading Harry Potter feels like home. It's like comfort food for my eyeballs and soul.
Angela of Studio Thirteen in Cocoa killed it yet again. I originally wanted just the silhouette but she turned it up a notch and added the skyline. I told her I didn't want a standard banner (just not my style) and then after I told her a bit about the show we came up with the cassette tape. She blew my mind yet again with turning my little basic idea into a work of art. Felicity would be proud.
So if you're all out of shows to watch I highly recommend giving this one a shot. Also my tattoo will make so much more sense if you do. Ha!
Loving: My new car! My 2012 Kia Forte started to fall apart in June. First the AC went out ($1,000) and then it started to go out AGAIN after everything had been replaced. WTF. A week after that the motor mount needed repair ($400). My goal had always been to drive it for at least two years payment free. I made it a year and a half. So not terrible! To be fair it was 7.5 years old so it was due for things to start wearing out. But why was it happening all at once and so goddamn expensive to boot?! After a few conversations with Dustin, I decided it was time to look at cars. The minute Dustin and I entered the dealership a salesman came up to us and looked Dustin in the eyes, asked Dustin the questions, and only TALKED TO DUSTIN. I felt completely invisible. Finally he got the point when I kept speaking up and Dustin kept saying "this is going to be HER car." It's not 1950 anymore. Eye roll.
I really wanted a Kia Sportage so I test drove it straight away. It's got the SUV feel without being overly bulky. It would've been a good size for us. But in the end the payments would have been like $500+ and that's just insane. I'm one of these people who is really cheap about a lot of things and car payments is one of them. Also I'm not a "car person". I don't need some fancy ass car that I look great in but I struggle to pay for every month. Nope. I stay within my means and then some. I have had the rug pulled underneath me several times in the form of layoffs and I am constantly on the look out for shit to go down again. I know that is my anxiety speaking but in this instance I think it's just being fiscally responsible. I mean, the salesman said I had the best credit he's ever seen for someone my age. Takes a bow. So I didn't even let the salesman try and talk me into it. I said "NO." and we were off to test drive a 2019 Kia Forte. I loved it immediately. Sure, I still wanted that Sportage but the new Fortes are worlds from my old one and I was really impressed with how far they had come. We went back inside to talk numbers and after a lot of back and forth a maybe a few tears on my end we made a deal. I drove out of that place in my brand new (13 miles brand new) 2019 Kia Forte. This would be my second car I've bought brand new. I thought about buying used but you can't beat the warranties with new cars and I went ahead and got all the bells and whistles with even more coverage so I'd have peace of mind. I rather pay more for stability than to look cool driving around town. But in this case I think I got both. I mean it's not a Mustang or anything but the design is a lot sportier than they once were. It's quite the upgrade. I keep telling everyone it's like going from a Flintstones car to a Jetson's spaceship. My old car didn't even have power windows or locks. I had to tell people "Remember to lock your door" more times than I can fathom. Even after having this car for a couple weeks I still reach over to unlock the passenger side for Dustin out of habit until I realize I don't have to because it's already unlocked. I also still reach to roll down my window when going through drive thrus. It's kind of funny how trained I am. The salesman kept going on and on about all of the features...lane assist, frontal collision assist, dual climate control, Apple CarPlay with a 9.5" screen, and a back up camera. Every single one of my friends (hiiii) asked how much I love the back up camera and to be honest I don't use it very often. There's the fact that I have gone so long without one that I'm like that's a nice feature for tight spaces but seems overkill for day to day shit. I'm more excited about the power doors and locks! Ha! Also Apple CarPlay is kind of a dream. I love how easily it connects to my iTunes and Podcasts. I can't get enough of my car! I'm still shocked every time I walk outside and see it in the driveway.
Listening to: A lot of random music but I'm just anxious for Taylor Swift's 'Lover' to drop.
Tried to cuddle: The cutest foster kittens Mad Max and Earl Grey. Pat and his girlfriend, Jessica, are fostering the leetle babies and invited us over to play with them. They tolerated me but they really seem to love Jessica and Pat. Earl even climbed Dustin like a mountain and laid on his shoulder. I almost died. Like is this how women feel when they see a man hold a baby? Because if so, I get it now. They would run around like crazy fur balls and then just totally pass out on Jessica's lap. She would try and move the sleeping kitten to my lap so I could get some keety cuddling in but every time they'd wake up and run back to her. Ha!
We had such a great night playing Splendor (Dustin and I's first time!) and eating pizza while the kittens parkoured all over the room. I hope these two guys find great homes!
