it's thursday @ 9:45 AM and i'm sitting at my desk - AT HOME. i took today and tomorrow off to enjoy some time with dustin and friends. it feels like forever since i've had a vacation that wasn't right in the middle of the holiday madness. i didn't sleep in but i'm still in my pajamas so that alone is confirmation that i'm enjoying this mini vacation.
i always forget how bad tv is during the week days. i stumbled upon the E! true hollywood story of Heidi Klum which was pretty interesting but it was downhill from there. i ended up just turning on VH1 because they were actually playing music videos but as soon as pitbull came on i had to change it. i can't deal with that level of shitty music. jason mraz's new song was pretty boring, the civil wars came on and i still wasn't impressed (unless they are with taylor swift), but i can't do pitbull. no no no.
pat came into town yesterday afternoon. well, he actually flew in on tuesday but spent time with his family first before making his way to our house. so i came home to dustin, sam, and pat all congregating in the kitchen which was awesome. nothing like seeing friendly faces after a long day at work.
we ended up going for a walk around a nearby park. it was really warm (high 80s) but with the breeze it wasn't so bad. we saw so many turtles, and ducks, AND BABY DUCKS! it was kind of surreal for the four of us to all be together again. it has been two very long years.
as we were walking on the bridge over the water pat said "i'm just so glad we are all here and talking to each other again". me too pat, me too. relationships are hard whether they with your family, lifelong friendships, or romantic in nature but that's what makes life worth anything at all. it's the people who you love and care about. it's the people who you can disagree or argue with or not talk to for a year and still come out of it ok in the end. it's still having room for forgiveness and new beginnings.
after our evening stroll, we ended up at the olive garden per pat's request. we had all been making a list of 'things to do with pat' and he wanted to go to the OG. we can go ahead and CHECK that one off our list. it was a good meal with lots of inappropriate jokes thanks to dustin. but i noticed we were the only group of people laughing and having a good time. everyone else in the restaurant sat in their seats so stiff and bored. have some fun people!
we came home and watched the royal tenenbaums (definitely one of my faves if not my favorite of all time). it's truly a movie i could watch (and have) over and over again. pat and sam hadn't seen it so i was happy to be sharing it with them. even happier that they enjoyed it just as much.
the rest of the night was filled with watching the last of the pens game. then OT. then a shootout where they ended up winning! i also showed sam her sim and oscara wilde (her horse). i think she got a kick out of it or she just thinks i'm totally mad. it's one or the other.
i've had a rough few weeks with family issues and illnesses. i have been feeling pretty stressed out, overwhelmed, confused, & helpless. if the last few weeks have taught me anything it's that you need to live NOW. not tomorrow or maybe sometime next week but NOW. time goes by quickly and nothing is promised. so i am still dealing with things but i'm also going to live the shit out of my life especially over the next few days. i'm not taking anyone that i love for granted. my heart is always on my sleeve.
the beatles always say it best...
i get by with a little help from my friends.
