Recent Thoughts on Random Topics

FUCK POLITENESS

If any of you listen to the podcast 'My Favorite Murder' then you know Karen and Georgia have a running theme where they remind their listeners to "fuck politeness". Now we're not talking opening a door for a stranger or saying please and thank you. This is strictly in terms of feeling uncomfortable. I can't even count how many times, especially as a woman, I've been polite even though I felt uncomfortable. There whole mantra is to fuck that and leave or speak up or get yourself out of the situation no matter what. We as people (AND WOMEN) do not always need to be polite if we feel something is off. Maybe nothing would have happened but if you feel in your gut something isn't right then fuck politeness and get the hell out of there. I've gotten better about this over the years but just them reiterating it each episode has really helped give me that confidence.

Here's an extremely embarrassing story that Dustin still to this day makes fun of me about. But it was one of my "fuck politeness" moments.

Ok so Dustin and I ordered our food at Chipotle. We sat down and started to eat when I noticed something odd. I looked around the perimeter of the restaurant and saw one person sitting at a table by themselves. Then I saw another and another and they were all facing away from each other. Ok, not entirely weird except none of them were eating. They were just sitting and staring. It freaked me out enough where I couldn't eat. Dustin was annoyed and asked me if I wanted to leave. So we left. We scooped up our half eaten lunch, got to-go lids, and left. We ended up finishing our meal in my car down the road in some random parking lot. I forgot who did it but one of us called to ask if any of the Chipotle staff knew what was going on and they replied - "Interviews." Ha! Did I feel like a complete paranoid idiot? Why yes I did but also I didn't care because in my gut in that moment I didn't trust the situation. I think this was right after one of the latest bombings or shootings or who knows because they happen so often but I was on edge. Anyway, I'm not going to apologize for it. I'm glad it was nothing. A lot of times you will "fuck politeness" and it will be nothing but there's always a chance that there is someone that is looking to harm you. And those people can fuck off.

So don't ever apologize for your gut or intuition or bad vibes. You fuck the hell out of being polite and get yourself somewhere you feel at ease.

They also say "Pepper spray first, apologize later." which I also love.


TRUMP's TRANS BAN


In case you've been living under a rock Trump announced, via Twitter no less, that he would not allow transgender people to serve in any capacity in the military. This is absolutely ridiculous. RIDICULOUS.  There are thousands upon thousands of trans men and women that have fought, are currently fighting, or are hoping to join, and if they want to serve America in this selfless way than why not let them? They are not a burden. They are people like you and I and deserve all of the same rights.

As of right now I do not have any personal relationship, as far as I know, with a trans person so I clearly have zero first person experience. To be honest, it's taken me awhile to really understand what it is to be trans and I'm still not 100% there but I'm open to learning every day. The Amazon original show 'Transparent' has been incredible in helping me understand their truth and troubles. Also I watch 'I am Jazz' which is a "reality" show about a transgender teenage girl. And of course listening to every day transgender stories. I support all lifestyles even the ones that are harder for me to understand. I believe in their value as people and they should not be shunned from any community.

Trump is cruel and if you support him you are just as cruel.

DISTRACTED DRIVING


I've been thinking of one distraction specifcally that has really bothered me in past months. So many people I know AND people I don't know (like celebrities, bloggers, etc.) video while the car is in motion and they are behind the wheel. I totally understand doing anything while driving is dangerous (texting especially but also eating, lighting a cigarette,  putting on makeup, searching for something on the floorboard) but this in particular really bothers me. I'm not here to blame people because I've done my fair share of dangerous things while behind the wheel too. For example, I'm big on finding a particular song on my iPhone or looking for a Podcast while my car happens to be in motion. These are things I'm really trying to work on. I don't text and drive (although I have in the past) but I do text at red lights which is probably only slightly better. I just feel like if you need to do something on your phone it makes way more sense to do it when the vehicle is not moving. It seriously scares the shit out of me when I see friends and family snapping videos while driving. Don't get me wrong, there are several times I'd like to whip out my phone and video something but I always remind myself that the car is moving and it just IS NOT WORTH IT. Now at a red light, I'm all for it. When Dustin is in the car he is my texter and music/podcast finder. I really suggest if someone is with you to just give them your phone and let them do whatever it is you need. Now if you're alone it's up to you. It really is up to all of us but please ask yourself is the video, the snapchat, the instastory, the Facebook post, the text, whatever it is - if it's actually worth getting into an accident. If it's worth potentially hurting yourself or someone else.

We all have a lot of work to do and it's one of those things that are never going to be perfect but I know we can all do better by being more aware and really thinking before we act.

ATHEISM


Not only do I not worship government but I also don't worship any God. 

I'm an atheist but I'm also an American. It's that simple. If you think Trump worships anything or anyone but himself you are severely mistaken. His words are such a danger to society and especially the American people. Also, where is the separation of church and state? I personally don't think ANY president should discuss their personal religious views. Because you know what? IT'S FUCKING PERSONAL. Religion should not have any place in government or in a place of work. Period. Unless of course you actually work at a church. This man keeps tearing down trying to tear down minorities left and right and I absolutely will not stand for it. 


OBAMACARE REPEAL DEAD

I'm so incredibly relieved that the Republican's plan didn't pan out. I'm so impressed with Senators Collins and Murkowski. Senator McCain of course was the deciding vote and I'm so thankful that he voted no. I called each Senator on my lunch break on Friday and either left a voicemail or spoke to one of their interns thanking them for voting against their party. 

Since this latest bill was announced  called every day to Senator Rubio who is just a complete dipshit but I still wanted him to know what his constituents actually wanted. There was even once where I got into a bit of an argument with one of his interns. Stop trying to change my mind and pass my message to the man who is supposed to be serving Florida. How bow dah? We've won, for now but I know there's still quite the war ahead. 

I will write about this in more detail later on but I have decided on getting the Nexplanon implant in my arm which is a 3 year birth control method. I do not trust this administration for a second and I want to make sure me and my family are covered in at least that way. It will almost span the length of the Trump and/or Pence presidency which is the best I can do since my cervix doesn't like the IUD. I will be scheduling the procedure in the next couple weeks.
