Friendship has got to be the most magical and fulfilling part of existing. At least it is for me. They are chosen family. They have "gotten me" more than any blood relation ever has (aside from Hayley, but cousins are typically your first friends and she was mine). Even the best part of my marriage is the friendship within it. It's everything.
I think back to all the friends I've ever had and all we experienced together. The late night sleepovers. The after school hangs. The rollerblading around the block. The debrief outside by the lake after dancing with your crush inside Rock Haven. The hair trials. The first time we're alone in a car with one another. The fashion shows. The tree house Ouija board. The phone dates. The hospital visits. The secrets we'd confess. The letters we'd write in our coolest gel pen. The George Washington pool hairdos. The bus rides. The trips we've gone on. The non-stop giggles but especially the barely-able-to-breathe laugh attacks. The eye-rolls we'd give from across the classroom. The cold calling of our crushes. The nights downtown. Scream singing to all of our songs. Venting about our parents both past and present. The breakups with one another. The funerals. The birthday parties. The coffee dates. The concerts. The excitement of wearing a matching outfit. Having hard conversations. The Super Mario afternoons. The inside jokes. The car yapping. The falling outs and the falling back-ins. The marriages. The divorces. The moves.
There are some that were short lived and others that have lasted a literal lifetime. Some that gutted me once they ended and others that continue to ebb and flow through this lifetime of ours. Some ride-or-dies and some newbies. Each one of you, past and present, have impacted my life in incredible ways and I can't thank you enough for that.
