Handwritten Letters
I have always loved getting mail. My grandparents traveled around the world when I was growing up and my grandma would send me postcards from everywhere they went. I have postcards from Paris, Bali, London, New York, San Francisco, etc. I also had a friend who moved back and forth while we were growing up and we always managed to stay in touch through letters. I was always so excited to go out to the porch and check the mail box. I loved seeing letters or postcards addressed to me. It made me feel special. It still does.
The mailbox above is similar to the one that we had on the porch of the house I grew up in. The house was built in the 1930s and was a bungalow style. So the old fashioned mailbox just kind of fit right in. I just can't believe we actually put mail out in the open like that for the mailman to take. Crazy!
When was the last time you wrote a handwritten letter? Or sent a postcard while you were on vacation? Or even Christmas cards or thank you notes? I love sending and receiving all of these things. It's just so much fun to open that mailbox and find something other than bills or coupons I'll never use. It's also equally exciting to have spilled my heart out on paper and fold it into a nice little rectangle just to put in an envelope and drop in a mailbox, which will eventually show up at the home of someone I care about. I mean how cool is that?
I love technology. I have grown up with it and it's been awesome to watch it advance. But as much as I love telephone calls, emails, instant messaging, and social networking, I will always love snail mail more. It adds such a personal touch. It shows you that someone really took time out of their life to sit down and write to you. Sure it takes more work but for me it's totally worth it. There's just something to be said for handwritten letters.
