Small Case of the Nerds

The 4th of July is my favorite summer holiday behind Flag Day which makes sense as they both relate to one another. I like celebrating the country I was born, raised, and still live in. Sure, we have our flaws and we still have tons of issues to work through as a country but FUCK YEAH AMERICA. We may not be perfect but we are still awesome.

Of course I ate a hot dog before the contest. Duh! // I got Dustin new boxers.

It's tradition in our house to watch Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest (on TV) that takes place at Coney Island. I'm not sure when it started but we've done it for as long as I can remember us being together. I'll admit it's pretty disgusting but whatever, we still enjoy it. So when the clock struck 12:30 I turned the TV on and Dustin came to join me. We knew Joey Chestnut was going to take the whole thing like he has done over the years so we both rooted for someone else. Dustin picked Matt Stonie which left me with "Eater-X". We watched and cheered and winced the entire 10+ minutes. And just as we both predicted, Joey Chestnut won AND set a new record. Stonie took second (Dustin won!) and Eater X came in third.

Getting all kinds of patriotic up in here.
Red lips. Eagle necklace. Podcast shirt. Flag shorts. Yep, think that about covers it.

Later that evening, Erin and Joey came over. Between the four of us we had a lot of food - artichoke dip, spinach dip, potato salad, mac salad, some pinwheel creation, and cake batter cookies. We brought all of the food to the coffee table and gathered around while enjoying an episode of Pawn Stars. I couldn't believe Erin had never seen this show! Not that it's Emmy award winning or anything but it's always fairly entertaining.

Food Network's new show: Cooking with Air & Dust!

After our tummy's were full, we moved onto Rock Band. Yes, we still have and play Rock Band! Although it has probably been a year or so since we've last played. I went into the garage (while it was raining) to pull out all of the "instruments" and then Dustin hooked everything up. Teamwork, y'all! Except, we were missing one tiny little chord for the drums. I think it got lost in one of our moves. So we played with two guitars and a microphone. Kind of a bummer but we still had a good time. We forgot to tell Erin that the little circles mean you are supposed to keep the beat with the microphone (like a tambourine) so when she started singing something that sounded like "Whoop! Whoop!" I died laughing. Seriously, I wanted to fall to the ground with laughter. I'm guessing ROTFL was born from a similar scenario.

We started to hear more and more fireworks as the night went on and decided to take the party outside. Our neighborhood was booming! I always love going to those firework shows that each city puts on but the crowds are outrageous. Plus it's 150 degrees - so nope! But I didn't feel like I missed out on anything by not attending a professional show because our neighborhood put a a really good show of their own. I seriously screamed (almost) every time our neighbor lit a firework. I didn't mean to and I wasn't trying to be dramatic but it's just how I react when there's a really loud noise. The first time I did it, the neighbors asked if I was ok. HA! Oh yeah, I'm fine, I've just got a small case of the nerds. Please carry on! Dustin, Erin, and Joey were all laughing at me. Ah well. We all had a great time playing with sparklers, looking up after each 'BOOM' and just joking around.
